A HOUT Pop-Up Inside The Hyundai Seoul

A HOUT Pop-Up Inside The Hyundai Seoul

This spring our gear spent a season inside The Hyundai Seoul, one of the most selective department stores in Korea, on the We, Pet floor. Getting shelf space there involves vetting you cannot buy your way past, and we are plainly proud of it.

An outdoor brand under store lighting

Our products normally live on gravel, grass and wet decks, so seeing them arranged on a tiled counter under warm retail light was strange for about a day. Then it started making sense. People shop differently indoors: they pick things up, turn them over, check stitching and zippers up close, and compare us directly against whatever sits one shelf over. It is a slower, more skeptical kind of looking than a festival crowd gives you, and gear either survives that inspection or it does not.

What people reached for

The carriers drew the most attention. City buyers wanted a bag that works on transit and still looks reasonable across a cafe table, and the quilted set kept getting picked up and tried against shoulders for exactly that. Leashes and small walk gear moved as gifts. The surf-print counter wrap was, we admit, mostly for us.

What retail buyers checked

The store's own merchandisers inspected the goods before and during the run, and their checklist was instructive: seam allowances, zipper brands, label stitching, how a bag stands when empty. Nothing about marketing. It overlaps almost perfectly with what careful online customers ask us in email, which confirmed something we already suspected: the questions that matter about gear are the same in a luxury store and a campground, only the lighting changes.

What did not translate indoors

Honesty requires the other half of the story. The big outdoor items, fences, cots and strollers, worked as conversation pieces indoors but not as impulse purchases; nobody carries a fence set through a department store. Those lived at the pop-up as samples to touch, with orders shipped to the door instead. That split, showroom in the store and fulfillment from the warehouse, is roughly how our US store works too, which made the pop-up a useful rehearsal for explaining it.

Seoul's department stores have been building serious pet floors for a few years now, and We, Pet at The Hyundai is one of the more considered ones: grooming, food, gear and a resident crowd of small dogs in strollers. If you visit Seoul with time for one retail stop involving your dog, that floor is a fair pick.

Quick questions

Is the pop-up still open? It ran through spring 2026 as a seasonal pop-up. For current fair and store dates, check our Instagram.

Does the pop-up lineup ship to the US? The carriers, leashes and most walk gear do. A few store-exclusive colors were Korea only.

Why does a department store matter? Buyers there review brands before giving space, and keeping the space depends on how the products hold up in person. We would rather point to that than write another adjective about ourselves.
